Oliver Quick gets a scholarship to go to Oxford University in 2006. He makes friends with Felix Catton and is asked to visit his wealthy family at Saltburn, their estate. People in Oliver’s family like him, but it turns out that he has darker plans. He becomes deeply attached to Felix and has a short relationship with Felix’s sister Venetia. Oliver said that his home life was bad because his father had just died and his mother was hooked on drugs, but Felix finds out that Oliver’s parents are healthy and alive and that he comes from a middle-class family when he tries to surprise Oliver with a trip to see his mother for his birthday. Felix doesn’t like Oliver’s lies and tells him to leave Saltburn after his birthday. Felix is found dead the next day, and Venetia later kills herself because of it. Oliver’s father James pays him to leave Saltburn for good, even though their mother Elspeth wants him to stay. After many years, James dies, and Oliver meets Elspeth again. When she asks him to come back to Saltburn, it turns out that he planned everything that happened between him and his family, from meeting Felix to killing Felix and giving Venetia the idea to cut her wrists. After giving Oliver all of her money and property when she was sick, Elspeth is now on her deathbed. Oliver turns off her life support and now lives alone in Saltburn.
